  • Rush starting point best buy average rating permanent waves signals 7.15 Featured Reviews Rush 6 ( 1974 ) Finding My Way / Need Some Love / Take A Friend / Here Again / What You're Doing / In The Mood / Before & After / Working Man It's 1974 and three piece rock band Rush reveal their debut set of recordings

  • 'What You're Doing' returns to Led Zeppelin guitar riffing and is stupidly enjoyable enough - like 'Take A Friend' it's groove based rather than led by melody

  • What does that make Neil Peart then? The ampersand?? Well, he does hold everything together, his sometimes flashy, sometimes impressive, always solid drum work allows Alex and Geddy to go off and improvise and stretch out a little more with their instrumental parts than otherwise they would have been able to do

  • 'In The End' opens quietly again! What is this? The opening five songs were all so great, great melodic rock songs, with the right amount of punch in all the right places! Thankfully, 'In The End' does break out of it's quiet introduction to swing back to the sound of the opening songs, and by the time its finished, leave you satisfied

Zen Mountain Monastery: Zen Meditation Instructions
Detailed instructions from Zen Mountain Monastery on how to practice Zen meditation.

  • How you position your body has a lot to do with what happens with your mind and your breath

  • What is most important in zazen is what you do with your mind, not what you do with your feet or legs

  • The only agreement that you make with yourself in this process is that if your mind begins to wander - if you become aware that what you're doing is chasing thoughts - you will look at the thought, acknowledge it, and then deliberately and consciously let it go and begin the count again at one

  • Because of the preoccupation with the internal dialogue, you were too full to be able to see what was happening around you

  • And it's that power of concentration that ultimately leads to what we call samadhi, or single-pointedness of mind

  • Allow it to do what it's got to do, let it exhaust itself

  • Whatever our practice is, the important thing is to put ourselves into it completely

    Acoustic Guitar Central: Barenaked Ladies
Interview with Steven Page and Ed Robertson from issue 99 of Acoustic Guitar Magazine.

  • Even though the band’s gift for high-wire improv and hilarity has been central to its rise from a Canadian cult success to one of modern rock’s biggest acts, what is so unique about Barenaked Ladies is how seriously they take the business of not taking themselves too seriously

  • Could you set the scene for what a late ’80s performance by the two of you was like? Page Our first real gigs were with this comedy group called Corky and the Juice Pigs

  • So the whole improv side of what you do was really there from day one

  • We were just trying to make each other laugh and enjoy the show, and we were never too worried about what anybody thought about it

  • We had a good time, and I think that’s what people gravitated to

  • Even though we were an acoustic group rooted in country and folk, we were molded by whatever was on the radio

  • In the past you’ve mentioned U2 as another example of what you were reacting against

  • I remember seeing him as a teenager and saying, 'That’s what I want to do.' I never thought I wanted to be in a band until I saw him play

  • He was a big fan and thought that 'What a Good Boy' was the best song of the previous couple of years--or whatever he said

Article about the history of the Colorado Gold Rush from the Fort Collins Public

  • In 1859, when three large lode claims were made in what would later become Gilpin, Clear Creek, and Boulder Counties, people from across the United States were lured to the region by the promise of gold

  • John Provost began what was one of the area's earliest commercial ventures in his log house, where he maintained a grocery and saloon

  • He built what Watrous described as a "strong log house." Arthur sold his entire cattle holdings in 1883, foreseeing that the open range days were doomed and thereby avoiding the major losses sustained by cattlemen later in the decade

  • Back into the chamber turning, all my soul within me burning, Soon again I heard a tapping somewhat louder than before

  • 'Surely, ' said I, 'surely that is something at my window lattice; Let me see, then, what thereat is, and this mystery explore- Let my heart be still a moment and this mystery explore;- 'T is the wind and nothing more!' Open here I flung the shutter, when, with many a flirt and flutter, In there stepped a stately Raven of the saintly days of yore; Not the least obeisance made he; not a minute stopped or stayed he; But, with mien of lord or lady, perched above my chamber door- Perched upon a bust of Pallas just above my chamber door- Perched, and sat, and nothing more

  • Then this ebony bird beguiling my sad fancy into smiling, By the grave and stern decorum of the countenance it wore, 'Though thy crest be shorn and shaven, thou, ' I said, 'art sure no craven, Ghastly grim and ancient Raven wandering from the Nightly shore- Tell me what they lordly name is on the Night's Plutonian shore!' Quoth the Raven, 'Nevermore.' Much I marvelled the ungainly fowl to hear discourse so plainly, Though its answer little meaning-little relevancy bore; For we cannot help agreeing that no living human being Ever yet was blessed with seeing bird above his chamber door- Bird or beast upon the culptured bust above his chamber door, With such name as 'Nevermore.' But the Raven, sitting lonely on the placid bust, spoke only That one word, as if his soul in that one word he did outpour
