  • Movie review for the film A Knight's Tale starring Heath Ledger, Rufus Sewell, and Alan Tudyk

  • “A Knight’s Tale” was one of those movies that I wasn’t too excited about seeing

  • “A Knight’s Tale” is supposed to be a light-hearted adventure not a documentary on medieval knights after all

  • Pretending that something is great doesn't make it great and, unfortunately for "A Knight's Tale, " going for cheap laughs doesn't make a movie great, either

  • A Knight's Tale Within the first couple of minutes of A Knight's Tale , the jousting begins with the crowd clapping their hands in rhythm to Queen's We Will Rock You

  • A Knight's Tale is a reverse Cinderella tale that is still an amusing ride

  • Yes, Geoff Chaucer as in Geoffrey Chaucer, author of The Canterbury Tales , which does include a Knight's Tale , but does not really resemble the movie

  • Either way, A Knight's Tale treads familiar territory, in both its romance and its 'sports.' The jousting is the only element that makes this movie unique

  • In the end, A Knight's Tale is merely brainless summer fun

A Knight's Tale (2001): Heath Ledger, Mark Addy, Rufus Sewell ...
    Review.

  • | A Knight's Tale Director : Brian Helgeland Cast : Heath Ledger, Mark Addy, Rufus Sewell, Paul Bettany, Shannyn Sossamon, Alan Tudyk, Laura Fraser (Sony Pictures/Columbia, 2001) Rated: PG-13 by PopMatters Film and TV Editor :

  • Whop whop whop A Knight's Tale is hard not to like

  • What makes A Knight's Tale work is its front-and-center self-consciousness and sense of ironic good fun

  • And Geoff's riffs are brilliantly fabricated tales of William's courageous deeds and monastic meditations: he dazzles the royal crowds with his inventiveness and brash deliveries, directly addressing those fans who watch the whole shebang 'without seat cushions' -- in short time, William becomes the People's Hero

  • A Knight's Tale is all about entertainment, especially the trials and traumas that come with celebrity when it's bequeathed on someone from a class and culture outside Hollywood (or other) royalty

  • Celebrity here is the function of an American Dreamy saga: William has an individual talent and rock-steady perseverance

  • Knight's Tale lays all these familiar tracks on thick, mostly for sports fans (and no, thank goodness -- there's no Baha Men)

  • THE object of this volume is to place before the general reader our two early poetic masterpieces -- The Canterbury Tales and The Faerie Queen; to do so in a way that will render their 'popular perusal' easy in a time of little leisure and unbounded temptations to intellectual languor; and, on the same conditions, to present a liberal and fairly representative selection from the less important and familiar poems of Chaucer and Spenser

  • The Canterbury Tales, so far as they are in verse, have been printed without any abridgement or designed change in the sense

  • But the two Tales in prose -- Chaucer's Tale of Meliboeus, and the Parson's long Sermon on Penitence -- have been contracted, so as to exclude thirty pages of unattractive prose, and to admit the same amount of interesting and characteristic poetry

  • The gaps thus made in the prose Tales, however, are supplied by careful outlines of the omitted matter, so that the reader need be at no loss to comprehend the whole scope and sequence of the original

  • As regards the manner in which the text of the two great works, especially of The Canterbury Tales, is presented, the Editor is aware that some whose judgement is weighty will differ from him
